10 Ways To Spark Creativity With Adobe's Creative Educator Program
I am excited to share that Adobe had launched level 2 of their Adobe Creative Educator (ACE) program! For those that are new to the program, I highly suggest you sign up to earn your level 1 badge and start the process of bringing clarity to your creative capacity. As I share in my book Educated by Design,
We are all creative! The challenge is to bring clarity in how we articlate and define our own creative selves.
In my book, the principles I share begin with the mindset that drives creativity. For many of us, we define creativity as the physical output and expression rather than the planing and thoughtfulness that went into the creative outcome. Check out my 10 principles below.
Adobe’s ACE program focuses on that thought process, which is unique for a software company that builds solutions to improve the creative process. For so many of us, we limit the use of those tools to the art classrooms and media labs, minus the occasional presentation we need to design. The truth is that once you understand the cognitive workflow of creativity, your confidence in your own creative abilities skyrockets, and then you are more open to experimentation, using complex tools, and finding ways to express your creative thought process. That doesn’t mean every educator needs to be a designer, and this is Adobe’s approach.
The level 1 badge unlocks the clarity around creativity, and how it is a mindset to help support 21st-Century skills that can but don’t have to include content creation, although it really should. It is critical for us to prepare our students to think creatively and use technology to their advantage.
The level 1 badge will leave with you with a better understanding of what type of learning environment stimulates creativity, what types of output students can create to showcase learning and the ever exciting challenge of proving that creativity has a role in every classroom. Even math, the long-neglected hotspot for creativity. Yes, even math can be infused with creativity! I have been developing learning strategies since March for Adobe, starting with the Khan + Create lesson series that put me to the test to design student projects that could present cell biology and measuring distance over time in engaging ways. I was blessed to join Adobe’s first cohort of Master Teachers this summer where I kept on creating lesson strategies that infuse creativity into the classroom.
